2010 FIFA World Cup in Southern Africa

In May 2004, South Africa was announced as the winner of the bid to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The South Africa 2010 World Cup Local Organizing Committee (LOC) was formed to oversee preparations towards ensuring South Africa’s readiness to successfully host this important event. The Technical Coordinating Committee  (TCC) was subsequently established to coordinate the preparatory work of national government departments. The TCC has representation from several national government departments, including the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) and South African Tourism (SAT).

The Regional Tourism Organization of Southern Africa (RETOSA) has developed a regional tourism organizing Plan for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to ensure effective participation by SADC Countries.
