Le Morne Brabant is mountain that juts into the Indian Ocean. It is largely surrounded by a lagoon and is a well-known tourist attraction. There are many caves and overhangs on the steep slopes. In the 18th and early 19th centuries it was a refuge for runaway slaves. It is a symbol of the slaves’ suffering and their fight for freedom.
Le Morne Brabant was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2008.
